Responsibilities and Duties:

Primary childcare (ages 3-12 years) on-board the Disney Wonder; primary guest engagement and satisfaction; shipboard safety; Adhering to United States Public Health (USPH) standards of cleanliness and sanitation; compliance with company standards of employment; provision of a physically and emotionally safe environment for children; shipboard safety drills; use of a microphone; crowd control.

 

As a Youth Activities Counsellor I was responsible for the safety and entertainment of up to 300 (of the +-800 children on-board) while the children were in the Youth Activities spaces. Counsellors provided individual programs, program support and entertainment in the form of board games, ball games, educational games, craft activities, drawing and total physical response activities during opening hours from 7am-midnight. Leadership, planning, foresight, creativity, patience, adaptability, flexibility and attention to detail are imperative skills on the job. I worked in a team of +-40 international employees among 1000 other crew members responsible for the safe sailing of the vessel, therefore cultural awareness and impeccable safety standards were imperative.

WildREACH runs a weekly environmental science and conservation club at schools in the Grahamstown area, South Africa. I was responsible for entertaining, teaching and motivating groups of 15-30 high school learners on a weekly basis. Weekend trips were regularly planned to local game reserves, nature parks and eco-tourisms hotspots to equip the learners with practical knowledge about conservation and its importance. The trips were geared to be fun-filled and educational with ample time for formal and informal activities.
